OBITUARY: Michael J. Mahoney, 68

WILMINGTON, MA — Michael J. Mahoney, age 68, of Portsmouth, NH, formerly of Wilmington, MA, passed away by accident on June 21, 2024, in Kittery, Maine.

Michael was born on January 14, 1956, in Winchester, MA; he was the cherished son of the late Francis P. and Mary I. “Mae” (Fleming) Mahoney. Michael was one of eight siblings that were raised in a large and loving family in Wilmington. Michael was educated in Wilmington and a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1974. Following graduation he went on to continue his education at Boston College where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree.

Michael enjoyed many things in life; he loved to play sports especially basketball, he was a “crazy” Boston Celtics fan, and he enjoyed music of all kinds; attending countless concerts throughout his life. Michael took pleasure in sitting at the ocean, listening to the surf, and enjoying the beauty of the sunrises and sunsets. Most of all Michael treasured the time he spent with family and friends; especially his children whom he adored.

Michael was the beloved dad of Sean Mahoney of Boston, MA, and Brett Mahoney of Lexington, MA, he was the dear brother of Frank Mahoney and his wife Carol Mahoney of Oldsmar, FL, Irene Zafferes and her husband Lewis Zafferes of Belleair Bluffs, FL, Mary Weatherbee and her late husband Bob of Hudson, FL, the late Patricia Mullen and her husband Jim Mullen of Clearwater, FL, the late Peggy Graham and her husband Charles Graham, of New Hampshire, Barbara Mahoney and Ken Larivee of Windham, NH, and AnnMarie Mahoney-Kent and her husband Colin Kent of Newton, NH. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Friday, July 12th from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. followed by a Service to Celebrate Michael’s life at 1:30 p.m. Interment will take place in the family lot at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
