OBITUARY: Margaret T. (McDonough) Walsh, 93

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Margaret T. Walsh (McDonough), fondly known as “Mickey” to her family and friends, age 93, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away on June 25, 2024.

Mickey was born on June 30, 1930, in Winchester, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Patrick J. and Bridget M. (Norton) McDonough. Mickey was raised in a large and loving Irish Catholic family; one of nine siblings she attended Winchester Public Schools and was a graduate of Winchester High School.

Mickey moved to Wilmington in 1955 where she settled in a great neighborhood and raised five wonderful children. Mickey was a very devoted mother who always encouraged her children to work hard, be kind, do their best, and help someone whenever they could.

Mickey always worked hard to provide for her family; for many years she was a payroll clerk for the Tewksbury State Hospital. Mickey had a great personality; she got along well with her co-workers and made many wonderful friends throughout the years.

In her spare time, Mickey enjoyed heading out with her sister Rose to play bingo or travel to Atlantic City in New Jersey just to “try her luck”. She also looked forward to going to the movies every weekend or cruising with family and friends. Mickey cruised all over; she enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people.

Mickey will be fondly remembered as a great lady; she was always there to help anyone in need. Mickey was very devoted to her family and extended family and was a true friend to many. She will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Mickey was the devoted mother of Robert Walsh and his wife Donna of Hanover, MD, Michael Walsh of Billerica, Annmarie Lavigne and her husband Dennis of Woburn, Leo Walsh and his wife Cheryl of Townsend, and James Walsh of Wilmington. She was known as “Nana Walsh” to her grandchildren Larry Williams and Melanie Walsh as well as her great-grandchildren Carter, Wilson, and Althea. Mickey was the dear sister of Rose McCaul and her late husband Harry of Winchester, John McDonough and his wife Judy of North Reading, the late Festus McDonough, the late Mary Andriolo and her late husband Alfred, the late Joseph McDonough and his late wife Joan, the late Thomas McDonough and his late wife Nancy, the late Patrick McDonough and his late wife Lorraine, the late Ann Ross and her late husband Joseph. Mickey is further survived by her sister and brother-in-law Carol and Nicholas Barretto of Medford as well as her many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Tuesday, July 2nd from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon followed by a Service to Celebrate Mickey’s life at 12:00 noon.
