WILMINGTON, MA — Residents have two opportunities to attend Flag Retirement Ceremonies in Wilmington this week.
The Wilmington Minutemen will be holding its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on Thursday, June 13, 2024 beginning at 6:30pm at Minutemen Headquarters, behind the Harnden Tavern (430 Salem Street).
The simple ceremony, which typically lasts approximately 15 minutes, will consist of the Minutemen and American Legion properly disposing of American flags it has collected over the past year.
Residents can bring unserviceable U.S. flags to the event, or they can drop off the flags, year-round, in the marked boxes at the Wilmington Town Hall and the Wilmington Post Office.
The flags will be folded and placed, one-by-one, into a fire pit. Each flag is saluted. Volunteers will be at the fire pit to take the flag. The event is designed with safety in mind.
Contact Minutemen Captain Frank West at 978-658-1754 or email westrewilm@aol.com with any questions.
The Wilmington Department of Veterans’ Services will hold its own annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 5pm on the Fishing Pier at Silver Lake. Residents are invited to attend this event, held on Flag Day.
