STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: West & North Students Perform Well In Middlesex Math Madness Tournament

WILMINGTON, MA — On Saturday, May 11, 2024, eighteen teams from Middlesex County competed in the Middlesex Math Madness Tournament, held at the Memorial Elementary School in Burlington. The Middlesex Math Madness Tournament is an opportunity for students to grow mathematically with clever, engaging, and challenging problems that promote an exciting and rewarding experience for students and teachers alike.

Wilmington was well-represented with three teams; two from the North Intermediate School and one from the West Intermediate School. Students who were invited to participate in this tournament are members of the school’s Math Olympiad Team. The North Math Olympiad Team is run by 4th grade teachers Jill Reynolds and Sharon Tener. The West Math Olympiad Team is run by 4th grade teacher Renee Deschene, and Math Intervention Tutor Kerin Osgood.

The North Intermediate Teams were represented by: John Boland, Anthony Cooper, Jameson Garcia, Evan Krull, Tanisha Manral, Sam Phillips, Kathryn Picariello, Brady Saucier, Alaina Wang, and Lu Yang.

The West Intermediate Team was represented by: Nikhil Abhishek, Ethan Cipolle, Caitlin Leonard, Connor Moseley, and Abigail Reynolds.

All three teams did very well. The team from the West came in third place overall, and the teams from the North came in sixth and seventh.

“Opportunities like these are so important for our students,” stated Wilmington’s K-5 STEM Coordinator Michelle LeVesque. “We are so grateful to the teachers who dedicate their time to the Math Olympiad program, and the families who are committed to further student learning beyond the hours of the school day. The Middlesex Math Madness was a great experience for everyone!”
