OBITUARY: Mary E. (Kilmartin) Leccese, 75

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Mary Elizabeth Leccese (Kilmartin), 75, passed away at home on April 27, 2024 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mary was born on March 14, 1949 in Portland, Maine. She was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph B. Kilmartin and the late Mary E. Kilmartin (Ball).

Mary was the beloved wife of Thomas R. Leccese of Wilmington, MA, devoted mother to sons Thomas and his wife Erica Leccese of Derry, NH, David and his wife Elizabeth Leccese of Wilmington, MA, and Matthew and his wife Diane Leccese of Framingham, MA, loving “Nana” (or “Nina”) to her seven grandchildren, Hayden, Madison, Angelina, Camryn, David, Jack, and Riley, and dear sister to Joseph B. Kilmartin, Jr. of Clearwater, FL and Thomas W. Kilmartin of Framingham, MA. Mary is also survived by many cousins as well as other family and friends.

When Mary was a young girl, her parents settled in Framingham, MA, where she grew up with nothing but the fondest of memories. Affectionately referred to as “Sissy,” Mary adored her father, her mother, who was her best friend, and she had an incredibly strong bond with her brothers Joe and Tom. Mary graduated from Framingham North High School in 1967. Following her graduation, she worked for the federal government.

In 1979, she and Tom married and settled in Wilmington, MA where Mary became a full-time homemaker and they raised their three children. Mary happily resided in Wilmington for the rest of her life.

Every summer she looked forward to spending time at her “happy place,” the family cottages on Peaks Island, Maine. It was on Peaks where she made some of her most cherished memories, especially with her mother, brothers, children, grandchildren, many close cousins and lifelong friends.

Mary was an avid reader and had many family pets that she adored throughout her life. Above all else, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was always the person who brought everyone together. Her selfless spirit filled a room with light and love. She had a magnetic personality that put people at ease. Mary will be sorely missed and her absence will forever leave a void in the lives of those she left behind.

Visiting Hours will be held at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Thursday, May 2nd from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Family and friends will gather at the Funeral Home on Friday, May 3rd at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Dorothy’s Church, 11 Harnden St., (Rte. 38), Wilmington, MA, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Cancer Center at Tufts Medical Center. http://giving.tuftsmedicalcenter.org/cancer
