Before The Rumors Start: NO, The Upcoming Large Project Across From Wilmington Plaza Is Not A Trader Joe’s

WILMINGTON, MA — Residents will soon see construction activity on a large parcel of land across from Wilmington Plaza. No, Trader Joe’s is not coming to town.

McGovern Hyundai Route 93, located at 271 Main Street, is planning to demolish their existing building and construct a new 25,989 square foot car dealership. According to the Wilmington Planning & Conservation Department, the proposed building will be set closer to Main Street. Improvements to landscaping and utilities are also planned.

The project will be seeking site plan review, a stormwater management permit, and a groundwater protection district special permit from the Wilmington Planning Board. The Board will be holding a public hearing on the matter at its next meeting on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 7:30pm in the Town Hall Auditorium.

A copy of the project’s plans is available for the public to view in the Town’s Planning & Conservation Department inside Town Hall from 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

The car dealership announced the news on social media earlier this week.

“McGovern Hyundai Rt 93 has been proud to be a part of the Wilmington community for almost 2 years now, and after getting to know the area, we agreed this town deserves nothing but the best,” read the post. “We are breaking ground on our new state-of-the-art facility! Every inch of this building will be torn down, and upgraded to the best McGovern and Hyundai both have to offer.”

The company provided a “sneak peak” of a rendering of their new dealership with the news.
