Wilmington Baseball Opener: WHS Defeats Winchester, 1-0

It might not feel like spring, but the boys of summer are back on the field. The Wildcats played a near perfect opening game to score a 1-0 win over a powerful Winchester squad. Junior Ayden Balter went 5 strong innings and showed why he’s one of the best pitchers in the state, K-ing 10 batters. In his first varsity pitching performance, senior Noah Spencer slammed the door shut, throwing two scoreless innings in relief for the save. In his first varsity game, senior catcher Jacob Doherty was phenomenal catching and calling the shutout behind the plate. The Wildcats got superb defense all around, with big plays from Michael Dynan, Eric Spinney, Connor Lovell and Brian Banks. Senior captain Austin Harper drove in the first run of the season and the games only run.
