THIS WEEKEND: Wilmington Rotary Club To Hold ‘Polar Plunge’ At Silver Lake On March 23 To Raise Funds For Polio Research

Below is a press release from the Wilmington Rotary Club:

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Rotary Club is sponsoring their Second Annual Polar Plunge Fundraiser at Silver Lake on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at noon on the sunny shores of the Town Beach.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to “Polio Plus”, and the Rotary Foundation’s continuing effort to eradicate the disease of Polio from the World.

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.

Although there is no cure, there is a safe and effective vaccine – one which Rotary and our partners use to immunize over 2.5 billion children worldwide.

Cases of Polio have been reduced by 99.9% worldwide since 1988, and only two countries remain endemic to the spread of the virus, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Help us to eradicate this debilitating disease once and for all.

Come and join us on March 23, 2024 at noon and “Make the Plunge” with members of the Wilmington Rotary Club and the Wilmington High School Rotary Interact Club. Or consider a “Go Fund Me” Donation in any amount to “2024 WHS Rotary Interact Polar Plunge.”

All Plungers are then invited back to Tremezzo Restaurant for Pizza!

All Funds raised will be donated to Polio Plus. Thank you for your support!
