School Committee To Approve Issuing Diploma To Wilmington Hero Elmer Drew, Killed In WW2 After Leaving WHS Early

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington School Committee is holding a meeting this Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 7pm in the High School’s Large Instruction Room.

The meeting will be streamed live on WCTV.org and on WCTV.

There are several noteworthy items on the meeting agenda, including:

  • The School Committee will consider approving a WHS diploma for Elmer Drew. Drew, a WHS student, joined the Navy when he was 17 and was killed on D-Day, six weeks after enlisting. (Learn more about Drew’s story from this Wilmington Town Crier article.)
  • The School Committee will receive a presentation regarding the Education Program associated with the MSBA Wildwood School Building project.
  • The School Committee will consider approving the Middle School’s Improvement Plan.
  • The School Committee will accept $7,000 in grants from the Wilmington Educational Foundation.
  • The School Committee will review policy changes involving staff assignments, transfers, recruiting, hiring, evaluating, and substitutes.
  • The School Committee will also receive updates on the Superintendent’s Goals, the Student Opportunity Act Plan, the upcoming PreK-12 Parent/Guardian University, and the upcoming Community Forum for the MSBA Wildwood Building Project.

The School Committee will also hear any public comments, correspondence, subcommittee reports, and reports from student representatives.
