WILMINGTON, MA — Robert W. “Bob” Towle, age 85, of Tewksbury, formerly a long-time Billerica resident, passed away peacefully on February 21st, surrounded by family. Born on May 17, 1938 in Somerville, Bob was raised in Medford and graduated from Medford High School.
Bob met his future wife, Elizabeth “Betty Ann” Scott, at a church dance. The couple was married on November 10, 1956 and together they celebrated over 65 years of marriage. The couple moved to Wilmington and later Billerica where they raised their children; Susan, Cathy, Bob Jr. and Nancy, and later on welcomed their 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Bob was very supportive of his family and could be found at their extracurricular activities and sporting events cheering them on.
Bob had many passions in life. He was a huge Boston sports fan, no matter the sport, he enjoyed cheering for them all. Bob had a fondness for all kinds of cars, from little sports cars all the way up to a full sized pickup, he had a love for them. He enjoyed taking long rides while smoking a nice cigar. Bob enjoyed all kinds of music, bowling and nice stop into Dunkin Donuts. His greatest passion though was animals. He loved all animals, taking in many as pets during his lifetime, especially dogs.
Bob was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth-Ann (Scott) Towle. He was the dear father of Susan Santoro & her husband John of Billerica, Cathy Carey & her husband Bradford of Marblehead, Robert Towle Jr. & his wife Katrina of Ashburn, VA and the late Nancy Murnane. Loving “Papa” of Beth Nadeau, Christopher Santoro, Kimberly & Connor Carey, Morgan, Hayden & Caroline Towle, Stefany Ramos and Ricky Canada. “Great-Papa” of Adriana, Adele, Liam, Lexi, and Quinn. Bob was the son of the late Henry and Ruth (Belyea) Towle. He was the brother-in-law of William Scott & his wife Virginia of Reading and Reginald Scott, Jr. of Nashua, NH. Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends were invited to gather for visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington, on Saturday, Feb. 24th, from 12-1, immediately followed by a funeral home service at 1:00 p.m. Interment followed in Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading.
