TOWN ELECTION UPDATE: Wilmington Possibly Heading Towards Uncontested Elections As Filing Deadline Approaches

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington voters will go the polls on Saturday, April 27, 2024 to elect one Select Board member, two Wilmington School Committee members, one Shawsheen Tech School Committee, and the Town Moderator.

As of Friday, February 23, 2024, the Wilmington Town Clerk’s Office reports that four incumbents have pulled nomination papers to get onto the ballot:

  • Town Moderator Jonathan Eaton is seeking his second term.
  • Shawsheen Tech School Committee Chair Charlie Fiore is seeking his second term.
  • Wilmington School Committee Chair David Ragsdale is seeking his third term.
  • Selectwoman Lil Maselli is seeking her second term.

This election cycle’s fifth incumbent — MJ Byrnes — the longest tenured elected official in Wilmington — announced last month she would not be seeking re-election.

No challengers have emerged in any of the four races.

Nomination papers became available in the Town Clerk’s Office on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. The last day to submit nomination papers, with at least 50 valid signatures from Wilmington voters, is Friday, March 8, 2024.

The Board of Registrars will certify signatures on nomination papers no later than Friday, March 22, 2024. Candidates have until Monday, March 26, 2024 to withdraw from the ballot. The election warrant (ballot) will be posted on Friday, April 19, 2024.

The Annual Town Election will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024, form 8am to 8pm. In a change, the High School will now serve as one of the town’s polling locations. Precincts 1 & 2 will vote at the Boutwell; Precincts 3 & 4 will vote at the High School; and Precincts 5 & 6 will vote at Town Hall.

The last day to register to vote is Monday, April 17, 2024 by 5pm.
