OBITUARY: Mary Louise Nichols, 64

Below is an obituary sent in by the family:

ST. CLOUD, FL — Mary Louise Nichols, 64, born in Stoneham Massachusetts, died on Sunday January 21, 2024 at her residence in St. Cloud, FL. surrounded by the love of her family.

Mary, or Auntie as she was affectionately known, unselfishly and unconditionally loved and supported her children deeply, and she worried over them until the end. To Mary, family was everything.

To say that she will be missed greatly is an understatement. She was a respected colleague as well as loyal friend for decades to many. She provided comfort and solace while asking little in return, she was a true friend and cherished mother, sister and aunt.

Mary grew up in Wilmington, MA with her parents James and Elaine Hachey, her brother Jamie, and sisters Pattiann and Dot. As a child she participated in color guard with many neighborhood friends, and was the captain of the girls Hockey team. She was Catholic and grew up attending St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Wilmington. She attended Wilmington High School as well as Shawsheen Valley Tech where she studied Cosmetology. Mary owned ‘Hairs to You’ hair salon in Woburn MA for several years before becoming a mother to Matthew James, and step mother to Krista, Kelly and Lori. Motherhood was Mary’s greatest calling and crowning achievement. Her ability to make lifelong connections from neighbors and colleagues was unparalleled.

Mary moved to Florida in the mid 1990’s to be closer to family and she relished the Florida sunshine. She worked as a stylist before a career change into Property Management, working proudly and loyally for Gemstone Properties in Kissimmee for almost two decades. Mary became a mother again, giving birth to Holly Patricia in 1997. In Florida she made many more lifelong friends and memories in new neighbors, fellow parents and colleagues.

Mary loved the Boston Red Sox, Turkish tv dramas, and Cheezits with ice-cold, diet Pepsi. She was a backseat driver, chocolate lover, Disco dancer and Motown singer. She enjoyed all babies, cheering her son on at baseball games or cross country meets and driving her kid’s friends home from school. An avid letter writer to her representatives, and always one to enjoy an afternoon Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee. She loved beach days and her happy place — Anna Maria Island. She adored her nieces and nephews, family gatherings, making Italian food feasts, dog sitting Rocco and Christmastime. She habitually reminded everyone she loved to be careful driving.

She disliked liars, thieves and when the Progresso Bread Crumb company changed their Italian bread crumb packaging, she disliked their new logo and recipe so much that she started a letter writing campaign until they changed it back.

To her daughter she leaves her beauty, kindness and ability to give the perfect stink eye. To her son she leaves her sardonic wit and questioning of authority. To all her children, siblings, nieces and nephews, family and friends she leaves her undying love, pride, fierce loyalty, compassion and gratitude.

Mary is survived by her son Matthew O’Doherty, daughter Holly Nichols and son in law, Holden Nieto, step daughters, Krista Carreau, Kelly O’Doherty Smith, Lori O’Doherty. Brother and sister-in-law James and Linda Hachey and sister and brother-in-law Dot Hachey and Steven Geffner. Nephews Connor Hachey, Lukas Hachey Seiji Koizumi Hachey, Isamu Koizumi Hachey, Jorge Barquin, Nieces Brianna Hachey, Makie Koizumi Hachey and Shaye Hachey. And Rocco.

A funeral mass was held at 11am on Saturday February 3, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St Cloud, Florida.
