WILMINGTON, MA — John H. Quilty, Jr., age 87, of Wilmington, passed away suddenly on February 10, 2024.
John was born on May 3, 1936, in Boston, MA; he was the cherished son of the late John H. and Katharine (DaPonte) Quilty. John grew up in Medford and graduated from Medford High School with the Class of 1954. Following high school, he furthered his education, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University and attended a joint program with RPI and Tufts in Graduate Studies.
John married in 1959 and started his family in Manchester CT, moving to Arlington in 1964, and settling in Wilmington in 1973.
John spent his professional career in high-tech engineering. During that time, he co-invented the patented “Circulating aspirator with improved temperature control”.
In his earlier years he enjoyed sailing, horseback riding; working at the rodeos when they came to Boston. He enjoyed camping with the family up and down the East Coast.
John also loved to travel the sea, taking several cruises around the world receiving a “Master of the Seas” certificate.
John enjoyed ballroom dancing and appreciated good wine. He loved trains and muscle cars, especially his ’96 Mustang.
John was the devoted father of John R. Quilty & his wife Denise of Wilmington, Susan Bennett of Wilmington, and the late Karen Quilty, loving “Grandpa” of Emily Bennett, Janelle and Jeffrey Spano, Devin Kelley, Shayla Kelley-Wilder and Kelsey Hatt, great-grandfather of Theo Hatt.
Family and friends gathered for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Friday, February 16th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
