BILLERICA, MA — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maura J. (Hallisey) Doherty of Billerica, MA, a beacon of warmth and strength. Maura passed on January 25th after a lengthy illness, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, courage and joy.
Maura was born on August 15, 1946 and grew up in Medford. She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Dorothy Hallisey, her infant son Daniel and her brothers Robert and Donald whom she loved dearly.
Maura was a 1964 graduate of Matignon High School and a 1966 graduate of Northeastern University School of Radiologic Technology. She enjoyed a 40 year career in healthcare at several area medical facilities, including Lahey Clinic Billerica, Wilmington Regional Health Center and Occupational Health and Rehab in Wilmington MA.
Maura is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Philip Doherty, her sons, Philip and his wife Mindy of Stoughton, Greg and his wife Tina of Salem, NH, Andrew of Acton, Dan and his wife, Stephanie of Burlington. Maura cherished her role as grandmother to Alexandra Philippon, Brendan Philippon, Colin Philippon, Cameron Doherty, Sarah Doherty, Owen Doherty, Nora Doherty, Emme Doherty, Oona Doherty and Luke Doherty.
Maura was not only devoted to her family but also a friend to many. Rarely a day went by without Maura sharing stories with her sister-in-law Carol Hallisey and cousin Bonnie Mannion. She also loved her weekly lunch/dinners with her friends Fran DeSantis and Jean Dembkoski. Maura’s kindness knew no bounds, and she touched the lives of those around her with her infectious laughter and comforting presence.
Visiting hours were held in the Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., (Rt. 3A), Billerica, Tuesday, January 30th, from 4:00 pm -7:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica was held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment to follow at Wildwood Cemetery, 34 Palmer St., Winchester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the MSPCA, Nevin’s Farm, Methuen, in memory of Maura Doherty.
