OBITUARY: Margaret E. (Walker) Gundersen, 84

WILMINGTON, MA — Margaret E. (Walker) Gundersen, age 84, of Wilmington, formerly a long-time resident of Everett, passed away peacefully at home on January 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret was born in Woburn, MA, on September 19, 1939; she was the cherished daughter of the late Stanley E. and Elizabeth (McClay) Walker. Margaret was raised in Woburn and graduated from Woburn High School.

Margaret married her “sweetheart” Ronald C. “Red” Gundersen on April 28, 1962, sharing more than 51 years together. They raised their four children in Everett for many years before moving to Wilmington in 1992.

Margaret worked as an x-ray technician at Whidden Hospital in Everett for over twenty years. She enjoyed working with her patients and co-workers.

Margaret had a very strong faith throughout her life; she attended First Congregational Church in Chelsea where she taught Sunday School. She was active at the First Congregational Church in Revere where she served on the Missions Committee and the food pantry. For the last thirty years, Margaret attended Bible Study at the Christian Calvary Church in Lynnfield. She served on several committees for the church and volunteered her time for many church events.

Margaret was crafty and talented; in her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She made braided rugs and enjoyed refurbishing furniture. Margaret also liked to visit the Senior Center in Wilmington; she made several friends and looked forward to the social events. Margaret enjoyed taking yoga classes, chair aerobic classes, and country line dancing classes.

Margaret will be remembered for the love of her family; she was very family oriented and took great pride in caring for them. Margaret was a wonderful wife, mother and “Nana.” She loved spending time with her grandchildren; when they were little, it was Margaret who cared for the children while the parents were working.

Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Ronald C. “Red” Gundersen, devoted mother of Karl Gundersen & his wife Maria of Medford, Kristen Michaud & her husband Christopher of Pelham, NH, Kurt Gundersen & his wife Grace of Dover, NH, and Keren Reese & her husband Kevin of Wilmington, loving “Nana” of Kassidy Reese, Cullen Michaud, Cecelia Michaud, Karlie Reese, Karissa Gundersen, Kahsy Gundersen, and Kaelyn Gundersen, dear sister of Edwin Walker & his wife Nina of Rockport, Susan Schultz & her husband Bob of Lincoln, NH, and the late Ruth Walker Gill, sister-in-law of Lawrence J. Gundersen & his wife Betty of West Brookfield, MA. Margaret is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rt. 62), Wilmington, for Visitation on Thursday, January 4th, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 noon. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

Memorial donations in Margaret’s name may be made to the Christian Calvary Bible Study, 47 Grove Street, Lynnfield, MA 01940.
