SALEM, NH — Leroy (Lee) Clarence Albright, 92, of Salem, NH, passed away on December 14, 2023 after contracting COVID.
Leroy was born on April 11, 1931 to Grace (Mellick) Albright and Clarence Albright in Waterloo, IA. After Leroy graduated from West High School in 1949, he continued his education at Iowa State Teachers College, now called University of Northern Iowa. After 3 years, he paused his education and enlisted in the US Army.
In 1955, Leroy was stationed in Germany, where he met and later married Elfriede Krautlein of Seukendorf, GA. While finishing his active duty there Leroy and Elfriede had the first of their three children, Barbara, Linda, and David. In 1956. Leroy came back to the US, temporarily residing in Peabody, MA and then to Salem, NH.
While back in the US and finished with military service, Leroy used the GI bill to finish his post-secondary education at Boston University, graduating with a BS in Business Administration. Leroy worked for many years at AVCO in Wilmington, MA, but spent the majority of his working career at Borden Chemical Co.
In 1997, Leroy retired and spent some of his time traveling. He and his wife took memorable trips to Orlando, Fl and California. They also were very fond of Vermont and visited there often. But mostly, Leroy was a family man and was happiest when around them. He was known for his warmth, strong spirit, and kindness. He was a man of integrity, a gentle man with a big heart.
Leroy was predeceased by his parents, Grace and Clarence Albright, two sisters, Carol Brandhorst and Doris Petersen, a brother Merritt Albright, and his wife, Elfriede. He is survived by his children, Barbara Albright, Linda Albright, David Albright and wife, Linda; his grandchildren, Rachel Roberge, Elena Sunshine, Grace Rollett, and Madeline Malloy; and 6 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous niece and nephews, including John Dorrer, Karin Harring, Russell Albright and Jeffrey Albright.
Services were held at Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 12:00pm. Private burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church Food Pantry, 171 Zion Hill Rd., Salem, NH 03079.
