OBITUARY: Margaret M. “Peggy” (Crowley) White, 93

WILMINGTON, MA — Margaret M. White (Crowley), fondly known as “Peggy” to her family and friends, passed away on December 6, 2023, surrounded by her family; she was 93 years old.

Peggy was born on April 4, 1930, in Charlestown, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late James H. and Margaret M. (Bratton) Crowley. Peggy was raised and educated in Charlestown and a graduate of Charlestown High School. Peggy was part of a large and loving Irish family; she was proud of her heritage and no matter where she lived throughout her life, she never forgot her Charlestown roots; she was a true “Townie” at heart.

Peggy married the “love of her life” Edward Francis White on October 13, 1952; the couple settled in Somerville where they raised a beautiful family. Peggy and Eddie spend many wonderful years together with family and friends before his sudden passing in 2004.

In their early years, Peggy and Eddie enjoyed taking dance lessons and gliding across the dance floor. Peggy was an avid sports fan, she and Eddie would go to the Boston Garden to see the Bruins while they were dating, and they became her favorite Boston sports team although she loved them all. Throughout their lives they looked forward to traveling with family and friends, seeing new places and meeting new people. Peggy was also an avid bowler who belonged to several bowling leagues; she thoroughly enjoyed the competition and the many friends she made with her teammates.

Peggy’s was a very devoted wife and mother; she showered her family with unconditional love and support. Peggy enjoyed taking her children to the 17th of June parades in Charlestown, she loved creating beautiful holidays and special celebrations for them and she treasured the time they spent together. Peggy’s door was always open to family and friends, her home was warm and welcoming; she made everyone feel special. Peggy was thrilled when she became “Nana” and most recently “Great-Nana;” she never missed an opportunity to go to sports events, school events, recitals or anything else her grandchildren were involved in; they were her world.

Peggy worked hard throughout her life; prior to retiring she was an executive secretary for Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Company. Peggy had an endearing personality and worked well with the customers as well as her coworkers. Peggy retired in 1994 following many years of dedicated service to the company.

Peggy moved “up country” to Wilmington over 30 years ago to be closer to her family and she quickly became involved in her new community. Peggy took a part time fill in position at the Wilmington Town Hall and was asked to stay on with the Town Manager’s Office and remained working there for over fifteen years. Peggy loved working at the Town Hall and with her charm and personality she made another group of wonderful friends.

Peggy was also a woman of great faith and a devout Catholic; when she moved to Wilmington, she became a parishioner at St. Thomas of Villanova Church. Peggy got involved in helping with countless Church activities and was a lector at Sunday Mass for many years.

Peggy will be fondly remembered as a beautiful lady inside and out; she was kind, generous, and a “social butterfly” wherever she went. Peggy would do anything to help her family and friends; she made everyone feel loved. Peggy will forever be loved and missed but she will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Peggy was the beloved wife of over 51 years to the late Edward F. White, devoted mother of Eddie White of Apollo Beach, FL, Maureen Beraldi & husband Rick of Wilmington, Karen Breton & husband Bob of Lawrence, and Jimmy White & wife Hyla of Wilmington. Loving “Nana” of Audrey White & fiancé Ben Newton, Devon Slap & husband Mike, Ericka DeNovellis & husband Brian, Kyle White, Anthony Beraldi, Keenan Beraldi & partner Morgan DiBenedetto, Hailey Breton, Braeden White, Nolan White, and great-grandson Owen Slap. Dear sister of the late Rita Twoomey, James Crowley, Katherine Mancini, and John Crowley. Peggy is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Tuesday, December 12th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA, at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, December 11th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
