WILMINGTON, MA — Barry J. Quinlan, age 76, of Haverhill, passed away peacefully at home on December 2, 2023.
Barry was born on April 21, 1947, in Cambridge, MA; he was the cherished son of the late John B. and Margaret G. (O’Keefe) Quinlan. Barry was raised in Wilmington and attended Wilmington Schools.
Following graduation, Barry enlisted in the U.S. Navy on May 5, 1964. He served overseas in Vietnam for a year and a half while serving on the USS Intrepid followed by service on the USS Saratoga in the Mediterranean before returning to the United States. Barry was honorably discharged on May 4, 1970.
Upon returning home from the military, Barry was employed by M/A-COM MAC, Inc. for several years before becoming co-owner of his own communications company. He performed digital microwave equipment installations and maintenance across the United States and Europe including ABC Sports 1984 Winter Olympics Games in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia and the 1980 Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York.
In his spare time, Barry enjoyed time on his catamaran, taking motorcycle trips, and spending time on the Cape boating and fishing with family and friends.
Barry will be remembered for his love of gardening, photography, and his quick wit and sense of humor.
Barry was the dear brother of Marie E. Blanchard & her late husband Robert of Falmouth, the late Marjorie A. Quinlan, and the late Terrence D. Quinlan III, loving uncle of Paula Blanchard-DeMello and Sheila Blanchard, “Great Uncle” of Caitlin, Daniel, Tyler, Hope, and Heather, “Great-Great Uncle” of Braeden, Maren, and Cian.
Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Thursday, December 14th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main Street, (Rte. 38), Wilmington at 11:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Wildwood Cemetery.
