OBITUARY: Jeffrey E. Baker, 58

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — Jeffrey E. Baker, “Jeff,” age 58, a longtime resident of Wilmington, passed away surrounded by his family on December 2, 2023. Jeff graduated from Peabody High School class of 1983 and went on to University of Massachusetts – Amherst where he earned his bachelor’s in journalism, graduating in 1987.

He met Paula after graduating and they spent 35 happy years together, raising two beautiful children who were the absolute joy of his life. He adored spending time with his son, Andrew, with whom he shared the 2015 Dustin Pedroia Heart League Award for their work with the Muscular Dystrophy Association. As supporting the MDA was something Jeff took great pride in, he and his daughter, Ruthie, co-authored a children’s book in 2010 and donated the proceeds to support the cause. He spent many years working as a Marketing Manager for Moynihan Lumber in North Reading and Beverly and later Asahi America in Malden and Lawrence.

Jeff had many health conditions that made continuing to work difficult in the last few years, pushing him into an early retirement. Instead of letting this bring him down, Jeff saw it as an opportunity to pursue his real passions in life. He was a dedicated sports fan and an avid collector of autographed memorabilia. He hosted the weekly podcast and radio show, TTMCast, where he interviewed celebrities, athletes, and fellow collectors, developing a new community of like-minded people and sharing his passions with countless listeners. Additionally, he wrote a weekly article for Sports Collectors Daily where he expanded his fan base and shared his knowledge with readers.

His happiest moments were spent traveling with Paula to Spring Training games in Florida or attending any Boston sporting event. He also loved going to Salem Willows, playing arcade games with Andrew and enjoying his sandwiches with Ruthie. Throughout the years he remained close to the same group of friends, participating in a friendly rivalry over fantasy sports. His loss is felt deeply by his family and friends who will not be the same without him.

Jeff was predeceased by his father Bruce M. Baker of Stoughton. Besides Paula and his children, he is survived by his mother Gloria J. (Weiner) Baker of Peabody, his sister Andrea Baker of Peabody and brother Gregg Baker and his wife Laura of Stoughton and their children Marissa and Nicole Baker. Jeff is also survived by many loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Thursday, December 7th from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 noon immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

Memorial donations in Jeff’s name may be made to The Red Sox Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 411217, Boston, MA 02241.
