Below is a press release from Shawsheen Tech:

BILLERICA, MA — Shawsheen Valley Technical High School is excited to announce that applications are being accepted for the incoming 9th-grade class, the Class of 2028. As a leading vocational high school, Shawsheen provides students with comprehensive and dynamic educational opportunities in over 20 industry relevant vocational programs.

The application period opened on October 1st, 2023, and the application deadline is Thursday, February 1, 2024. With a maximum capacity of 340 seats for the Class of 2028, the Admissions office has already received an overwhelming response, with 365 applications submitted during the first month.

In Superintendent Tony McIntosh monthly staff meeting last week, he shared, “We have double the applications we had at this time last year; I hope to see us reach 500 applicants.”

The application process is comprehensive, taking into consideration various aspects of a student’s academic and personal history. Factors such as attendance, scholastic achievement in 7th and 8th grade, disciplinary record, a teacher or counselor recommendation, and results from an interview, contribute to the overall assessment. A detailed outline of the application process is available at http://www.ShawsheenTech.org/Admissions.

As applications are reviewed, applicants will be numerically ranked based on the evaluation results. Students are encouraged to apply on a rolling basis until the February 1st deadline, to be considered in the first round of acceptance. Late applicants will be automatically placed on a waitlist along with those who did not secure a seat. Notifications will be sent to all applicants in March, for both accepted and waitlisted status.
