WOBURN, MA — Dorothy Louise (Cassidy) Sardy, a longtime resident of Woburn, died peacefully on October 10th at the age of ninety-two. She was the beloved wife of 51 years to the late Joseph H. Sardy Jr.
Born in Boston and raised in Lynnfield, Dorothy was the only child of the late Bernard J. and Agnes L. (Tierney) Cassidy. She graduated from St. Jean Baptiste High School in Lynn and attended Wilson Stenographic School in Boston.
Dottie worked as a secretary for River Works/General Electric. Joe and Dottie married and lived briefly in Wilmington and Tewksbury before settling in Woburn. She loved having a big family, dedicating her love and life to caring for their six children.
A beautiful person, inside and out, she lived her life with strength of character, tremendous faith, respectful dignity, and a wonderful sense of humor. Dottie was a rare example of an adventurous spirit, yet someone who deeply understood the value of hard work, responsibility, and community care. She was an excellent cook, photographer, country music lover, avid gardener, and a voracious reader. She cherished her most special moments with her family at their vacation home in New Hampshire, a home they built with the help of family members and close friends. She also enjoyed traveling, socializing, attending country fairs, spending time at the ocean, and competing fiercely in board games.
Dottie became a 4-H Leader, motivated by her desire to help her children build leadership skills and self-confidence. She often shared stories of embracing challenges, from learning diverse activities like cooking, arts & crafts, and public speaking. She dedicated many years of service as an active Middlesex County 4-H Program volunteer. Her affection for this organization has been passed throughout her family and remains strong today.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Louise M. Donahue, her husband Kevin of Westford, Joanne M. Yelle, her husband Shaun of Hampton Falls, Pamela J. Sardy of Nashua, Joseph B. Sardy of Lynnfield, Robert Scott Sardy, his husband Jeremy “JD” Schulz of Woburn, Ellen T. Babcock, her husband Brian of North Reading, and daughter-in-law, Vivian Sardy of Hooksett. She was the loving “Nana” of fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main Street, Woburn, on MONDAY, October 16th.
