VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Recreation Department Seeking Coaches & Referees For Basketball Season

Below is an announcement from the Wilmington Recreation Department:

WILMINGTON, MA — The WRBL season is just around the corner!

The Recreation Department is currently seeking coaches for our basketball teams for this upcoming season. We are asking all Guardians and adult family and friends for help, if possible. All practices and games will be on Saturdays starting December 2 – February 10 (no 12/23, 12/30).

We are also looking for referees for the upcoming basketball season. Referee positions are open to those who are 15 years old and up. This is another great way to earn volunteer hours for school. All new referees must attend the free Referee Clinic which will take place over two nights on Tuesday, October 24 and Monday, October 30 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.

Learn the skills necessary to be a Recreation basketball referee. The clinic will include classroom instruction and floor work. Those who are age 16 by December 1 and attend the Referee Clinic can qualify for a paid position. Priority hiring for WRBL referee positions will be given to those who attend the clinic.

This is a great position for basketball players as work assignments are on Saturdays only during the basketball season. Hired referees would work every Saturday from December 2 – February 10 (no 12/23, 12/30).

Please don’t hesitate to call or email the Recreation Department with any questions.
