Dennis Kelley Named Next Public Buildings Superintendent

WILMINGTON, MA — At this week’s Select Board Meeting, Wilmington Town Manager Jeff Hull announced the appointment of Dennis Kelley as Wilmington’s next Public Buildings Superintendent, following the scheduled retirement of current Superintendent George Hooper in January 2024.

Mr. Kelley — a lifelong resident and Wilmington High graduate — is being promoted after serving as Wilmington’s Building Systems Manager for nearly ten years.

“In this role, [Mr. Kelley] has been responsible for ensuring that approximately three quarters of a million square feet of occupied building space has heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems that are running efficiently and making the work environment as conducive as possible for employees in those facilities to perform their jobs,” explained Town Manager Jeff Hull in a memo to the Select Board. “Mr. Kelley is very familiar with our town and school buildings.”

Prior to working for the Town of Wilmington, Kelley spent most of his career as a Facilities Manager and Property Manager for GlobalWare Solutions, in charge of the infrastructure of the company’s buildings around the country.

“The Town will be well served by Mr. Kelley’s technical knowledge of the buildings, his management ability to enlist the productive work of the employees in the department, and his relationship skills to work with and respond to the needs of a variety of ‘customers,'” Hull told the Select Board.

Hull also praised George Hooper for his distinguished career in Wilmington — spanning 24 years — and thanked him for providing notice of his retirement well in advance, to ensure a smooth transition with Kelley, given the current building projects, including the new Senior Center and new Town Hall/School Administration Building, and potential upcoming building projects, including a new elementary school and a fire substation in North Wilmington.
