OBITUARY: William “Bill” Thompson, Jr., 56

WILMINGTON, MA — William L. Thompson, Jr., “Bill”, age 56, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on July 14, 2023, following a courageous fourteen-year battle with cancer.

Bill was born on March 17, 1967, in Winchester, MA; he was the dear son of Carolyn (Toppin) Weavers and the late William L. Thompson. Bill was raised and educated in Tewksbury, MA, where he made many life-long friends. He moved to the “Thompson family compound” in Wilmington over 30 years ago.

Bill was a great guy; he worked hard to provide for his family, he had a great work ethic and was a talented plasterer. Bill was the owner and operator of Bill Thompson Plastering Inc.; a company he started over 30 years ago. Bill had a great reputation in the construction industry, he put in long hours, treated his customers well, and was always willing to go the extra mile to give someone a hand.

In his spare time, Bill, like to go camping and fishing with his family and friends; he looked forward to taking his dogs for walks throughout the neighborhood and socializing with the neighbors. Bill also had a competitive side when playing in his dart league or sitting in on a “friendly” game of poker or Texas hold ‘em.

Bill will be fondly remembered for his unconditional love and devotion to his family; he would do anything to make their lives easier. Bill was a “gentle giant” with a heart of gold; he has touched so many people throughout his life and he will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bill was the devoted father of William L. Thompson III of Wilmington and Jessica M. Quintal of Northumberland, NH, cherished son of Carolyn Weavers and her husband Steve of Waltham and the late William L. Thompson, he was the loving “Papa” of Maia Rose Shaw, beloved brother of Kathy Thompson and her partner Jay Heycock of Waltham, Karen Thompson of Nashua, NH and Michael Thompson and his wife Ann of Woburn. Dear uncle of Charlotte Bink, Jack Bink, Jessica Winitzer and her husband David, Michael Thompson II and his husband Joseph Brabants and great-uncle of Mason and Gavin Winitzer. Bill is further survived by his former wife and friend Joanne Thompson, as well as his extended family and many friends.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Sunday, July 30th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. concluded with a Prayer Service at 3:00 p.m. Following the Service all are welcome to continue a celebration of Bill’s life at the Tewksbury Knights of Columbus, 2068 Main St., Tewksbury, MA.
