OBITUARY: Jacqueline “Jackie” Shemkus Fitzgerald, 78

HAVERHILL, MA — Jacqueline “Jackie” Shemkus Fitzgerald of Haverhill, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023.

Jackie was born February 1, 1945, to Josephine and John Shemkus in Wilmington, MA, where Jackie graduated from Wilmington High School in 1963.

She was married to her soulmate David Fitzgerald for 39 years, settling in Haverhill, MA. David and Jackie together had 5 children, Jason Comeau Fitzgerald, Colleen Fitzgerald Gorecki, Joseph Fitzgerald, Megan and husband Sergei Perreault and John Fitzgerald.

Jackie leaves behind her brother John and his wife Fran Shemkus, her grandchildren Anastasia, Viktor and David Perreault, Sister-in-law Melissa and Charlie, Brother-in-law James Gallagher, nieces Sarah Shemkus and Rachael Long and numerous other family relatives.

Jackie spent many years in Exeter Elms campground in Exeter, NH where she enjoyed entertaining her many family and friends. She loved camping, playing card games, completing jigsaw puzzles, and feeding birds. She was proud of her polish heritage, often cooking golumpki for her family, and during the holiday, traditional Polish cookies. Jackie was a social butterfly and had a huge heart and would help anyone out anyway she could, she always gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and was accepting of everyone.

Services were private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are made by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill-Bradford. In lieu of flowers, Jackie requested that a contribution be made in her name to your local humane society.
