The Wilmington Department of Veterans Services recently thanked all of the individuals and organizations that supported the town’s Memorial Day efforts:
A very special appreciation to the members of the community who attended the Ceremony at the Cemetery on Monday, showing that they remember what the three-day weekend is all about.
The WPD Honor Guard, led by Sgt. John Delorey, who spent the entire weekend with us.
WPD Honor guard member Det. Butch Alpers who played Taps on Saturday and Sunday.
The WPD Rifle Team and Sgt. Matt Stavro on bagpipes.
WFD and especially Chief Cavanaugh for power washing various monuments.
The DPW and Cemetery Department who did a wonderful job dressing up the monuments, the Common, and the Cemetery.
Town Manager Jeff Hull, his staff and the Board of Selectmen for their support this weekend and all through the year.
Terri Marciello and the Elder Services staff for inviting us to the Memorial Day Luncheon.
The Wilmington Minutemen and their Chaplain, Mike Kelley, who has the perfect prayer for every occasion.
Margaret McKenna of Nichols Funeral Home who provided the limousine for the Parade Grand Marshalls.
Market Basket and Wilmington House of Pizza for the use of their parking lots.
VFW 2458, American Legion Post 136, The Sea Bees, and the always entertaining Aleppo Shriners.
Megan, Kat, and the talented (and patient) staff at Designs by Don.
World Famous Billy the Chef for the hot dogs for the hungry marchers.
The Wilmington HS Band, Band Director Michael Ferrara, and trumpet player Ben O’Brien. Ben played Taps at each of the monuments on Saturday.
Sean Lebrun HS music teacher, who put us in touch with the very talented Valerya Pineda-Montesinos who sang the National Anthem on Monday.
WMS students Jenna Giammarco who read the Gettysburg Address, and Jake Cronin who read a Memorial Day poem.
Sergeant-at-Arms USAF Retired Major Rob Oliveri, USCG Retired PO Henry Diorio.
Ann, Eddie, and all of those who helped with setting up the Cemetery Monday morning.
Eastern Bank for the display of Wilmington’s Fallen on the Common.
Liam Prigmore, Aaron Dancewicz, Kevin Stevens, Brenden Fitzpatrick and Noah Carriere, the Eagle Scouts who provided Wilmington with beautiful monuments. It was an honor to decorate the monuments this Memorial Day Weekend.
All the scouts and families who help place flags and geraniums on the Veterans’ graves Saturday morning, the turnout was most impressive.
Our deepest gratitude, however, goes to the Gold Star Families who gave so much to all of us, because to them, every day is Memorial Day.
