Below is an update from Wilmington Elderly Services Director Terri Marciello, published in the Senior Center’s latest Buzzell Buzz newsletter:
WILMINGTON, MA — Here’s what has been happening since our last update in the June 2023 Newsletter:
The Senior Center Building Committee met on May 24, 2023. During this phase of the project, it is not necessary for the committee to meet as frequently as was done earlier in the project. Our OPM and architect provided an update on the construction estimate, schedule, and the value engineering. Work is continuing on the project design and coordination with town officials. The architect and consultants are preparing the construction documents, which include detailed specifications for equipment and material along with detailed architectural drawings suitable for public bidding.
The procurement of construction services for this project is done in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws and consists of two phases. The first phase is a Statement of Qualifications from general contractors and sub-contractors, which are due on June 2, 2023. This is a significant project milestone. A Prequalification Selection Committee will evaluate the submissions and determine which general contractors and sub-contractors are qualified and will be allowed to submit construction bids in the second phase.
The current schedule is to open construction bids in late August 2023. It is anticipated that construction could start in late September or early October with project completion in December 2024.

The project team is working to make our new senior center a welcoming place for all Wilmington seniors. We are excited to see this project develop as we move forward to a fall groundbreaking. This senior center will have a positive impact on our community and will be something we all can be proud of.
