WILMINGTON, MA — Watch the newest episode of “Access Abilities,” a show on Wilmington Community Television which highlights residents with disabilities and their inspirational stories.
In the latest episode, host Dr. Dee Genetti interviews Shawsheen Tech teacher Doug Michaud, wife Melissa, and their 4th grade son JD. JD was born premature and spent the first 100 days of his life in the NICU. He has had 3 surgeries on his hip, which has led to physical limitations that slow him down a bit when playing sports.
JD plays for “The Sledgehogs,” a youth sled hockey team managed by Spaulding Adaptive Sports Center. Tech students from the Drafting, Metal Fabrication and Joining, Advanced Manufacturing, Graphic Communication, and Design and Visual Communication Technical areas got together to design, construct and assemble a special sled for JD. JD was presented with the sled back in April at Ristuccia Arena.
JD also enjoys superheroes (especially The Flash), swimming, watching television, playing video games, and acting.
