Below is a press release from the Wilmington Recreation Department:
WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Recreation Department held the 38th Annual Fishing Derby at Silver Lake on Saturday, June 5. This multigenerational event for youth and non-professional adults began in 1983. The Derby allows the Town to showcase its finest natural resource while participants have a chance to learn or improve their fishing skills.
Reeling in the “Biggest Bass” were Avery Spencer (age 6) with a 12.4 oz. beauty while Jen Kenney topped the adult entries in this category with a catch weighing 12.2 oz.
Winning entries in the non-Bass category were Drew Drozdowski (age 9) catching a
6.7 oz. sunfish and Zach Dancewicz (adult) with a 5.2 oz. sunfish.
Experienced and novice anglers alike had a great time at this shore-fishing event.
The Recreation Department would like to thank Jim Buckley and Sean Theodos for their assistance in planning and supervising the Derby – and removing the hooks from the fish that really swallowed them! Thanks to Pets Plus in Tewksbury for their generous bait donation.
