WILMINGTON, MA — On Monday, June 20, 2020, teacher and vocalist Nanette Perrotte gave a presentation on the Birth of the Cool: Big Band Swings into Bebop.
The Bebop movement originated during the early 1940s in the playing of trumpeters Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis and saxophonist Charlie Parker. There was a strong group of vocalists who made a mark in the style as well such as Sarah Vaughan.
The event was organized by the Wilmington Memorial Library and Wilmington Community Television. The presentation took place live from WCTV’s headquarters.
The event was paid with federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
