Below is a press release from Reading Municipal Light Department:
READING, MA — Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) welcomed the completion of its updated customer parking lot on June 3, 2020 with a limited COVID-19 safe gathering consisting of John Stempeck, Chair of the Board of Commissioners, Coleen O’Brien, General Manager, and Paul McGonagle, Facilities Manager. The lot is ready to welcome RMLD customers back to the facility once COVID-19 restrictions are further lifted and the RMLD lobby reopens. The customer payment drop box is now located at the far end of the lot for customer convenience.
The completed project offers several benefits to RMLD customers and the community including: enhanced traffic flow and an increased number of public parking spaces; improved drainage to reduce pooling/icing; eliminated uneven/broken pavement; an added dual-port public electric vehicle charging station (two additional expansion ports); and site beautification.
The area was originally a similarly sized parking lot with a similar flow pattern and was reconfigured in the 70’s when a control house was built on one end for the power station. The control house sat atop an underground concrete cooling pool; both have since been retired and removed.
This project was completed following the Commonwealth of Massachusetts COVID-19 construction site safety guidelines.
