WILMINGTON, MA — Below are 5 things to know in Wilmington on Monday, June 1, 2020:
#1) Shawsheen Tech Seniors To Parade Through Wilmington
Shawsheen Tech seniors will be parading through Wilmington, Burlington and Billerica this Monday, June 1, 2020, beginning at 6pm.
The parade will follow the route below:
- Exit the school back parking lot and turn left onto Cook Street
- Proceed down Cook Street onto Aldrich Road (Wilmington)
- Turn right onto Boutwell Street (Wilmington)
- Turn right onto Burlington Avenue, 62 West (Wilmington/Burlington)
- Turn right onto Cambridge Street (Burlington/Billerica)
- Proceed down Route 3A (Burlington/Billerica)
- Turn right onto Cook Street (Billerica)
- Drive past Shawsheen one last time and the route ends
Students are being asked to decorate their vehicles. Students will be driven by a parent/guardian. Students will remain in their vehicles at all times and wear a seatbelt.
The parade will be led by members of the Billerica Police Department. Officers will be located throughout the route to direct traffic.
Spectators along the parade are asked to follow social distancing guidelines, and wear a cloth face mask or covering. Spectators are not allowed to congregate after the parade has passed them along the route. Spectators must ensure their vehicles are parked legally. Parking at the Tech during the parade is prohibited.
The parade will not extend into Tewksbury or Bedford in order to keep the route simple (a giant square) for traffic purposes. The organizers encourage Tewksbury and Bedford residents to still attend the parade.
#2) Free Mask & Gloves Giveaway In Town Hall Parking Lot
The Wilmington Health Department will be distributing free masks and latex free gloves to residents during a giveaway event on Monday, June 1, 2020, from 10am to noon, in the parking lot of Wilmington Town Hall (121 Glen Road).
Only Wilmington residents may receive masks and gloves. IDs will be checked.
Recipients will not leave their vehicles. Each vehicle will receive one kit. An adult kit includes approximately 6 masks and 4 sets of latex free gloves. An adult & child kit includes approximately 6 child masks (fits about ages 7 and under), 6 adult masks and 4 sets of latex free gloves.
Residents are asked not to arrive early so Town Hall business is not disrupted.
The masks and gloves were purchased thanks to a $5,000 donation from the Wilmington Community Fund.
#3) FREE Curbside Meals For Wilmington Students
Wilmington Food Services is offering FREE “grab and go” breakfasts and lunches at Wilmington High School every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 9:30am to 11:30am.
This curbside pickup service is open to ALL Wilmington students in all grades, including those that do not attend Wilmington schools. The program has plenty of food and would like to feed more students than it’s currently feeding. There is NO contact — just unlock your trunk and food service workers will place the meals inside.

#4) DEADLINE: Property Tax Deadline Is TODAY
#1) The due date of your real and personal property tax bill has been extended to June 1, 2020.June 1, 2020 is the new due date even if the due date for payment on your enclosed or previously mailed tax bill is April 1, 2020 or May 1, 2020.
#2) The due date for applications for property tax exemptions has also been extended to June 1, 2020.June 1, 2020 is the new due date even if the due date for applications on your enclosed or previously mailed tax bill is April 1, 2020.
This extension applies to applications for the exemptions listed in the third paragraph of G.L. c. 59, § 59, including exemptions under clauses 17, 17C, 17C1/2 and 17D (seniors, surviving spouses, minor children of deceased parent); 18 (financial hardship – activated military, age and infirmity); 22, 22A, 22B, 22C, 22D, 22E, 22F and 22H (veterans, surviving spouses and surviving parents); 37 and 37A (blind persons); 41, 41B, 41C and 41C1/2 (seniors); 42 and 43 (surviving spouse and minor children of firefighter/police officer killed in line of duty); 52 (certain eligible seniors); 53 (certain eligible properties with septic systems); 56 (National Guard and reservists on active duty in foreign countries); and 57 (local option tax rebates). This extension also automatically applies to applications for residential exemptions under G.L. c. 59, § 5C, for small commercial exemptions under G.L. c. 59, § 5I and for deferrals under G.L. c. 59, § 5, clauses 41A (seniors) and 18A (poverty or financial hardship due to change to active military).
#3) Wilmington Selectmen has also voted to waive interest and other penalty for late payment of any excise, tax, betterment assessment or apportionment thereof, water rate or annual sewer use or other charge added to a tax for any payments with a due date on or after March 10, 2020 where payment is made late but before June 30, 2020. This applies to late payments of bills that have a due date of March 10, 2020 or after, when such bills are paid late but paid on or before June 30. This waiver of interest does not apply to bills with due dates before March 10, 2020 or if the bill is not paid by June 30.

#5) REMINDER: Get Your Dog Licensed If You Haven’t Already
New dog license registrations or renewals can be accomplished online HERE, by mail, or in person. The cost is $10 if your dog is spayed or neutered, or $15 if intact. The deadline for renewal is April 1, 2020, after which a $15 late fee will be assessed in addition to the registration fee. A $50 civil fine will be added to these amounts if renewals have not been completed by June 1, 2020.
