WCTV Welcomes Ryan Malyar As New Executive Director

Below is a press release from Wilmington Community Television:

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Community Television Board of Directors recently unanimously appointed Ryan Malyar as WCTV’s next Executive Director. Chosen from more than 40 applicants, Malyar is a familiar face to the WCTV family and greater Wilmington community, serving as the station’s Youth & Content Coordinator for the past 15 months.

Malyar’s love of community access and the television industry blossomed during his childhood, appearing on a program called “Kids Korner” on Piscataway Community Television in New Jersey.

“Our director, Dawne Rodalo Dioniso, was beyond incredible,” recalled Malyar. “She had high expectations of us “Kids” and made the TV Studio a place where we felt like professional actors but also had a lot of fun. I strive to bring the same welcoming attitude and spirit of creativity to WCTV. Our current Youth Program is incredible, and I look forward to fostering its continued growth.”

Malyar’s other big passion has always been theatre. After attending The Boston Conservatory for Musical Theatre he spent many years performing. He played Santa in The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, toured Japan as a singer with The Orchestra Japan, and even did a puppet show at Sydney Opera House.

“I still enjoy doing theatre in Massachusetts when the opportunity is right,” Malyar said. “I also love directing and coaching the talent at WCTV. I have a knack for making people feel more comfortable on camera.”

Malyar’s love of theatre and video production led him to create his own production company in 2015 focused on filming live concerts and stage productions. In 2018 he was employed at Bedford TV until he was scooped up by WCTV in 2019 to act as Youth & Content Coordinator.

“The appeal of WCTV was tremendous. It’s really a beautiful studio – a gem in Wilmington that I hope more people will be enticed to see and utilize,” exclaimed Malyar.

Malyar highlighted Wilmington Community Television’s content, such as live coverage of government meetings, sports, and school events, and pledged to continue providing quality programming.

“We have big goals to cover as many events around town as we can, and we are always looking for new volunteers,” Malyar added.

Beginning his new role during the COVID-19 pandemic faces its own set of challenges.

“Although our doors have been closed to the public for the past few weeks, we have been very busy inside,” noted Malyar. “A new program, ‘Talk of the Town’ was launched to highlight the resilience of the Wilmington Community and we have produced over 25 episodes using Zoom and Skype. Just because we are social distancing doesn’t mean we can’t continue to connect. We are also working with Wilmington High to produce a Virtual Graduation Ceremony.”

“I can’t wait till we can open our doors again to the public and I look forward to building new relationships in the community,” Malyar continued. “I encourage everyone to follow us on social media. We are very active on Facebook, Twitter, and even Instagram. We are here to bring awareness to the ideas and decisions that impact Wilmington and to celebrate and capture the events that make this town a unique and wonderful place to call home.”
