SELECTMEN To Honor WHS & Shawsheen Tech Valedictorians, Discuss Phased Reopening Of Town At May 26 Meeting

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Board of Selectmen meets this Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 7pm. The meeting will take place online and shown live on WCTV (Channel 9 on Comcast and Channel 37 on Verizon) at http://www.wctv.org. (Members can also listen in to the meeting by dialing 1-646-558-8656 and entering meeting ID 875 0331 1539 and then press # and press # again at the next voice prompt.)

There are some noteworthy items on the agenda, including:

  • Selectmen will receive an update from Town Health Director Shelley Newhouse and Fire Chief Bill Cavanaugh on the town’s COVID-19 response.
  • Selectmen will receive an update from Assistant Town Manager Kerry Colburn-Dion on the schedule for town operations in response to COVID-19.
  • Selectmen will acknowledge and thank 12-year-old Kevin Pruslin for creating and donating “ear savers” to the Wilmington Fire Department.
  • Selectmen will acknowledge and congratulate WHS valedictorian Sukethram Sivakumar and Shawsheen Tech valedictorian Shayla Lee.
  • Selectmen will receive an update from Town Moderator Robert Peterson Jr. regarding the location of Town Meeting, currently scheduled for June 27, 2020.
  • Town Manager Jeff Hull will discuss changes to the FY21 budget to offset projected revenue shortfall due to COVID-19.
  • Hull will provide an update on the phase reopening of town recreation areas.
  • Hull will provide an update on an second attempt to recruit lifeguards for Town Beach.
  • Hull will provide an update on the cancellation of summer children’s programs on the town-side and school-side.
  • Hull will publicly thank the Wilmington Community Fund for its recent donation of masks to the town.
  • Hull will provide an update on Health & Recovery Coordinator Samantha Reif’s efforts to provide Deterra Drug Disposal Pouches.
  • Hull will provide an update on the Wilmington Police Department recently receiving a $300,000 grant from the Cummings Foundation.
  • Selectmen will consider authorizing the submission of a 1/12th budget to the Department of Revenue in case Town Meeting is postponed beyond July 1.
  • Selectmen will consider amending the regulatory agreement for Spruce Farm’s Over 55 Housing.
  • Selectmen will consider signing the contracts for Town Counsel and Special Town Counsel for FY21.
  • Selectmen will consider approving the renewal of the secondhand dealer license for Robert P. Flaherty Jeweler Inc.
