STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: Wilmington’s Kimberly Lifton Earns Two Awards At Hamilton College’s Class & Charter Day

CLINTON, NY — Kimberly Lifton, of Wilmington, was named the recipient of The Carl B. Menges Prize Scholarship in College Governance and The Sydna Stern Weiss Essay Prize in Women’s Studies at Hamilton College’s annual Class & Charter Day. The virtual ceremony was held on May 11. Established in 1950, the event combines the traditional Class Day celebrating the end of classes with a commemoration of the granting of College’s charter on May 26, 1812.

The Carl B. Menges Prize Scholarship in College Governance is awarded to a junior or senior who writes the best essay on any significant aspect of college governance, including academic, administration, admissions, alumni, buildings and grounds, endowment, finance, student life, and trustee issues.

The Sydna Stern Weiss Essay Prize in Women’s Studies is awarded to the student who writes the best essay in women’s studies.

Lifton is a senior majoring in history and literature.

Originally founded in 1793 as the Hamilton-Oneida Academy, Hamilton College offers an open curriculum that gives students the freedom to shape their own liberal arts education within a research- and writing-intensive framework.
