WILMINGTON, MA — A Wilmington family is organizing a surprise drive-by birthday parade for lifelong 90-year-old resident Gertrude White this Saturday, May 2, 2020 at 2pm.

The organizers are encouraging residents to participate. The parade will leave the Wilmington High School parking lot (off of Adams Street) at 2pm SHARP. Participants are asked to arrive BEFORE 2pm.

Parade Route: “Take a left out of high school parking lot, then take first right onto Fairview Avenue, at stop sign take right which is State Street, then next left onto Belmont Avenue. Follow all the way to the end and turn right onto Columbia Street. Her home is 22 Columbia Street. She will be sitting in front since weather looks like it is going to be great.”

Family will have White sitting in front of her home. Look for the balloons on her fence. Participants are encouraged to stay at least a car’s length away from the car in front of them. Drivers can stop for 5 seconds in front of the home to yell ‘Happy Birthday’ or ‘Hello.’

“She will be thrilled to see who great her town is by coming together on her special day,” wrote organizer Lori LaFave Leon in the announcement on Facebook.
