WILMINGTON, MA — At the Wilmington School Committee Meeting on Wednesday night, Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand announced that Dr. Edward Foster has been named the next Principal of the West Intermediate School.
Foster, who has over 30 years of experience in public education, is currently the Principal of J.F. Sullivan Middle School in Lowell, where he has served since 2017. Additional leadership experience includes serving as Principal of the Sargeant Elementary School in North Andover (2011-2017) as well as the Principal of the Trahan Elementary School in Tewksbury.
Foster has served as a member of the leadership team on several subcommittees there bringing to life several initiatives in the areas of strategic planning, budget development, professional development, literacy, curriculum & instruction, supervision and evaluation, special education programs, and crisis management.
Foster holds a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) from Boston University, a Master’s of Art Education from California State University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Curry College.
“Feedback gathered throughout the process identified Dr. Foster as an educational leader who believes in the central importance that a vision plays in the work of a school when it is built upon the input and ideas of others, who recognizes the important role that an inclusive culture holds for students and staff, and someone who is committed to the role he and his staff must play in attending to the social and emotional well-being of all members of the school community,” Brand told the School Committee.
The search’s runner-up was Paula Jones, currently the Principal of Highlands Elementary School in Danvers, where she has served since 2017.
Current West Principal Dennis Shaw will be retiring. He will be staying on during the early part of the 2020-2021 school year to help with the transition.
