UPDATE: Windsor Place Reports First COVID-19 Case As Deaths At Wilmington Nursing Homes Surpass 50

WILMINGTON, MA — According to numbers released by Wilmington Health Director Shelly Newhouse on Thursday afternoon, Wilmington has 90 active COVID-19 cases with 10 additional residents quarantined.

Wilmington nursing homes have been the hardest hit:

  • AdviniaCare has 22 active positives, 36 deaths, and  47 recoveries.
  • CareOne has 22 active positives, 16 deaths, and 12 recoveries.

A Wilmington assisted living facility — Windsor Place of Wilmington — recently developed its first active positive case.

Below is a summary of how COVID-19’s impact has evolved in Wilmington over the past four weeks:

  • Thursday, April 23, 2020 — 90 active positives confirmed (46 in community/22 at CareOne/22 at Advinia), 10 additional residents quarantined, recoveries (59) & death (52) tallies provided only appear to only include nursing home data
  • Monday, April 20, 2020 — 89 active positives confirmed (41 in community/36 at CareOne/12 at Advinia), 9 additional residents quarantined, 87 recoveries, 44 deaths
  • Friday, April 17, 2020 — 82 active positives confirmed (42 in community/12 at Advinia/28 at CareOne), 79 recoveries, 30 deaths
  • Wednesday, April 15, 2020 — 122 active positives confirmed (37 in community/61 at Advinia/24 at CareOne at Wilmington), 9 additional residents quarantined, 34 recoveries, 28 deaths

Ongoing Reminders From The Wilmington Board Of Health:

The Board of Health urges all residents to practice social distancing:
  • Stay approximately six feet away from other people.
  • Avoid large crowds and gatherings.
  • Practice good hygiene: continue to wash hands, use hand sanitizer, cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow, and stay home if you are sick.

Certain people are at higher risk for serious illness from this virus. High-risk individuals include:

  • older adults
  • anyone with underlying health conditions, such as heart or lung disease or diabetes
  • anyone with weakened immune systems, and
  • pregnant women

Individuals at higher risk should:

  • stay home and avoid situations of potential exposure
  • do not travel
  • do not attend large gatherings
  • limit time spent in public areas, and
  • do not congregate in groups of more than 10 people.

Residents should limit interactions with persons who are at higher risk for COVID-19. If you live with someone at high risk, practice social distancing. We all have personal responsibility to take care of ourselves and others, to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
