AdviniaCare Begins Accepting COVID-19 Patients From Mass General Hospital

WILMINGTON, MA — A portion of AdviniaCare at Wilmington, a nursing home located on West Street, has recently been transformed to care for patients from Mass General Hospital who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and are recovering from the illness, but still need a high level of care, including oxygen support.

“Working in close coordination with government partners, AdviniaCare Wilmington is opening [Thursday] an isolated, dedicated unit for patients with Covid-19 who are being discharged from the hospital but are not yet ready to go home,” Pointe Group Care COO Chris Hannon recently told Wilmington Patch. “These patients will be isolated from the rest of the center. We look forward to helping these patients fully recover and get back to get back to their prior level of function and quality of life.”

AdviniaCare originally planned on covering its entire 142-bed nursing facility to a COVID recovery center and transferring all of its residents to other nursing homes, but plans were postponed after 51 resident tested positive for COVID-19 prior to the move.

The facility’s numbers would worsen. According to the Wilmington Board of Health’s latest numbers, 105 residents at the 142-bed facility would eventually test positive for COVID-19.  22 of these residents are currently positive while 47 residents have made recoveries. Tragically, AdviniaCare saw 36 COVID-related deaths in the past three weeks.
