OBITUARY: Thea Kobylis, 86

SALEM, NH — Thea Kobylis, 86, a longtime resident of Salem, NH passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020 at the Derry Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare following a period of failing health.  She was born in Bremerhaven, Germany, a daughter of the late Carl and Marga (Sultenfuss) Maylahn.

Mrs. Kobylis worked on the US Army Base #69 in Bremerhaven, Germany where she met her late husband before immigrating to the United States in 1956, first settling in Wilmington, MA, then Jersey City, NJ and finally settling in Salem in 1972.  She worked as a hostess, waitress and bartender for Bob Loo’s Restaurant in Salem and Koby Kleaning before retiring in 2001.

She is survived by two sons; Edmund Kobylis of Manchester, NH and Robert Kobylis of Nashua, NH a daughter in law; Brenda Kobylis of Derry, NH, by a granddaughter; Laura Kobylis and fiance Roy Guilherme of Hampstead, NH, by two great-grandsons; Landon and Brayden, a brother; Lothar Maylahn of Bremen, Germany and by several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband; Edmund C. Kobylis in 2001, by her grandson; Christopher Michael Kobylis in 2012 and by her two brothers; Otto and Carl Heinz Maylahn.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic there will be no immediate services.  The family will hold a celebration of Thea’s life at a later date when all can attend.
