OBITUARY: Lloyd Winthrop Brooks, 89

WILMINGTON, MA — Lloyd Winthrop Brooks was born Feb 17, 1931 and passed away peacefully on the morning of April 18, 2020. Born and raised by a widowed mother with his two older sisters and younger brother in Fredericksburg, VA; he had a reserved demeanor, offset by a wry and mischievous sense of humor.

An accomplished self-taught guitarist- he loved creating music, art, and keeping busy with home projects and that something in need of repair. He joined the US Navy in 1950 and, in the course of his four-year aircraft carrier world travels, met his wife Rose of 65 years while roller-skating at the Bal-A-Roue in Somerville, MA. While developing their long-distance relationship during his stops in Boston, he would perform with his Navy pickup band at the Hillbilly Ranch.

After an honorable discharge and a few years of marriage, they moved to Reading, MA where they raised their family. After retiring as a publications office manager at Hanscom AFB they moved to Wilmington, MA.

Lloyd was happiest being a Dad who was always engaging, fun, creative, and understanding. He leaves this world loved by his two children, granddaughter, family, in-laws, friends and neighbors. He will be greatly missed by his wife Rose (Rossetti), his daughter Cynthia Tsoukalas, his son Lloyd G. Brooks and his wife Cynthia (Devlin) and his granddaughter Olivia Brooks all of Wilmington, brother Herman and his wife Eleanor, predeceased by sisters Celean Lowery and Virginia O’Dell of Fredericksburg, VA. Lloyd also leaves many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lloyd’s memory may be made to American Parkinson’s Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305.

Due to the current situation with the Corona Virus and for everyone’s safety, the Brooks family has decided to do a private service at this time.
