WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Memorial Library Assistant Director Charlotte Wood recently discussed her love for author Jane Austen.
Wood explains that Austen’s works “stand the test of time” because they’re about people and people’s character. Wood noted that “Clueless” was based on “Emma,” “Bridget Jones Diary” was based on “Pride & Prejudice,” and “Crazy Rich Asians” had elements of “Pride & Prejudice.” Wood also cited several modern adaptions of the book, including the recent “Emma” film.
Wood, who is a longstanding member of a local Jane Austen book club and enjoys re-reading Austen books as her “comfort read,” encourages residents to borrow an ebook or listen to an audiobook from Austen by using the library’s digital services, such as Hoopla or Overdrive.
