WILMINGTON, MA — Marie A. Butler (Chisholm) age 87, a life-long resident of Wilmington, passed away on April 15, 2020.
Marie was born in Wilmington on September 17, 1932; she was the dear daughter of the late Paul and Irene (McMahon) Chisholm. Marie attended Wilmington public schools where she was quite an athlete and graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1950; the last Class to graduate from the old High School also known as the Swain School.
Marie married Carl “Hawk” Butler in 1955; they had four children Carlene, Carl Jr., Bob and Susan. Throughout the years, Marie, attended countless school, sporting events, and dance recitals for her kids; she was active in the Booster Club and was always on the sidelines cheering them on. Marie also enjoyed her role as “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she loved spoiling them every chance she got.
Marie raised her family in a “great neighborhood” where her neighbors were considered part of an extended family and they had many great times throughout the years. Marie also had a lot of life-long friends who she enjoyed spending time with. The girls looked forward to their summer days spent at Moody Beach in Wells, Maine, they loved to bowl, and go to their weekly bingo games.
Marie worked for many years as a secretary for several local businesses including Sanmina Corporation and Johnson’s Roses. Marie was an excellent typist, she was smart, conscientious and a pleasure to work with; all attributes that made her quite successful throughout the years.
Marie will be remembered for her strong faith, her unwavering loyalty to her family and friends and her outgoing personality. She was a very nice lady who will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marie was the wife of the late Carl “Hawk” Butler, mother of Carlene James and her husband David of Duncanville, TX, the late Carl W. Butler Jr., Rev. Bobby Butler and his wife Melissa of Belmont, MA and Susan Hagopian and her husband Ara of North Chelmsford, MA. “Nana” of Michael James and his wife Monika, Jonathan James and his wife Vanessa, Kevin James and his wife McKenzie, Kyle Butler, Amanda Butler, Juliana Butler and great-grandchildren Marley, Emilyne, Eva Hope and Haley Joy James. Sister of Dorothy Stockwell and her late husband David of Longmeadow, MA, Henry Chisholm and his wife Ruth Anne of Delaware, Arthur Chisholm and his wife Kay of Delaware and the late William Chisholm and his late wife Betty. Marie is further survived by her nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s memory may be made to the March of Dimes, P. O. Box 18819, Atlanta, GA 31126.
Due to the current situation with the Corona Virus and for the safety of everyone, the Butler Family has decided to do a private service at this time. A memorial Mass and Celebration of Marie’s life will be held at a later date. Please follow our website for updated information.
