FREMONT, NH — John Matthew Gilligan was born on November 19, 1953, in Malden, MA. He passed away peacefully in his Fremont, NH home. He was 66 years old.
He was the son of John and Helena Gilligan. He is survived by his four children; his daughter Katelynn (Gilligan) Jordan, her husband Matthew Jordan and their daughter Olivia; his son John Gilligan, his wife Natalie and their three children John, Greyson, and Finley; his son Peter Gilligan and his wife Kirsten, and their two children Belle and Noah; his daughter Jeanne Gilligan and her two children, Emily and Collin Finney; his two sisters, Maryann (Gilligan) Suydam, her husband Bryce Suydam, and their son Jonathan; his sister Patricia Gilligan and her son Devin Ream; and his former wife and mother to his children, Annmarie Gilligan.
John was raised in Stoneham, MA and lived there for many years. His desire for a small-town way of life led him and his family to Fremont, NH 32 years ago. He was an avid outdoorsman and taught his children to fish, hunt, and enjoy the outdoors. He’ll fondly be remembered for his extravagant meals, including 1 pound meatballs and endless rounds of smoked ribs and brisket. John was a proud American with deep admiration and gratitude for the US Military.
John was the hardest worker who believed that if you weren’t 15 minutes early, you were late. He started in the metal industry at a young age, spending many years working for Admiral Metals in Woburn, MA. He went on to start his own company, Cut Rite Metals and then ended his career, retiring from Everest Metals in Wilmington, MA, where he worked with his lifelong friend, Dan Lynch.
John will forever be remembered for the love he had for his family. His children and grandchildren were the light of his life.
The Gilligan family will be hosting a celebration of life in his honor this summer when we can all be together. The family asks that anyone who has pictures or stories of John share them by sending them to jgilliganmemories@gmail.com
