SCHOOL COMMITTEE NEWS: Supply Lists Will Now Be UNIFIED BY GRADE & Published IMMEDIATELY AT END OF SCHOOL YEAR

WILMINGTON, MA — At Wednesday night’s School Committee Meeting, School Superintendent Dr. Glenn Brand announced changes to the way the district will be handling school supply lists each year.

“Currently, the requested list of student and classroom supplies varies considerably across teachers, grade levels, and schools,” wrote Brand in a memo to the School Committee. “I believe that this inconsistency create an issue as it relates to inequity of expenses and fairness for our families.”

“In an effort to remedy this situation, and also given the realization that families may wish to have more time to purchase requested materials and supplies, I am pleased to be able to share with you the fact that we are committed to developing a unified list of school supplies by grade level and having this list available at the end of school this June,” continued Brand. “Families will have the entire summer to purchase the requested items.”

“This is a small thing, but I think it would welcomed gratefully by families all over Wilmington,” responded School Committee member David Ragsdale. These little quality of life things do really make a difference. To have all summer to get what you need is going to be welcomed. As many little pain points that we can identify and try to fix, I think we should do that. This is a small thing, but a good thing.”
