VIDEO: Learn What Wilmington Strings Teacher Jennifer Perkins Is Doing To Help Her Students During The School Closure

WILMINGTON, MA — Watch the latest episode of “Talk of the Town” with host Ryan Malyar, WCTV’s Youth & Content Coordinator, featuring quick stories from around town.

In this episode, Malyar remotely interviews Wilmington Strings Teacher Jennifer Perkins, who discusses what it’s like to be a teacher but not be able to see her students in-person due to the COVID-19 school closures.

“It’s been really hard. I really miss them. All teachers say that, but we really do,” said Perkins. “I get to see a student go from 4th Grade to 12th Grade. I know them for 9 years. I develop a good relationship with them. I get to know their families and parents…. I miss my students’ smiling faces. I miss feeding off their energy.”

Perkins discussed how she’s been posting videos on Instagram of herself playing instruments in order to inspire her students to continue to practice while school is closed. She’s also been posting video tutorials for her students, on topics such as tuning instruments. Perkins also recently began offering 1-on-1 15-minute personal lessons to each of her students via Google Classroom.
