LETTER: Concerns Over Nursing Home Temporarily Becoming COVID-19 Facility

Hello,

My name is Spencer. I am working on my communications merit badge. One of the requirements is to write to an editor and express my opinion or share info.

I read the article “142-Bed Wilmington Nursing Home To Be Transformed To Temporarily Care For COVID-19 Patients“. I understand what that they are trying to contain patients who have been diagnosed with Covid-19. It may help the spread of the disease. My concern is about the moving of the people in general. Many older people have a hard time adjusted to moving and may not be confortable in their new environment.

How are they going to handle that aspect of the move? And how far do they plan on moving the patients? What if loved ones cannot make the drive to wave to their family from the window? I know everyone is trying to do what is right, but I hope the pros and cons were considered.

Thank you,
Spencer Talbot
