UPDATE: Wilmington Town Election POSTPONED, Learn How You Can Vote Via Mail

Below is a press release from the Town Clerk’s Office:

WILMINGTON, MA — At a meeting held on March 30, 2020, the Wilmington Board of Selectmen postponed the Annual Town Election, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2020, to a date to be determined when more information and guidance regarding the current COVID-19 emergency becomes available.

State legislation passed on March 23, 2020 as Chapter 45 of the Acts of 2020 provides that the Boards of Selectmen have the authority to postpone local elections in the face of the uncertainty created by the COVID-19 crisis.

The legislation also provides measures to ensure that voters can vote by mail as well as in person in these uncertain times.  These include a provision allowing for Early Voting by Mail for the 2020 local election, and extending a voter’s choice to not vote in person at the election because of COVID-19 to be included within the definition of why a voter would be “unable by reason of physical disability” to cast a ballot in person, and instead vote by absentee ballot.

As a result of the provisions of the emergency law, the Office of Town Clerk announces that a “2020 Municipal Election Early Ballot Application” is available on the website of the Secretary of the Commonwealth at  http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elepdf/2020-Municipal-Early-Ballot-Application.pdf.  Absentee Ballot Applications can be found at  http://www.sec.state.ma.us/ele/elepdf/absentee/English-Absentee-Ballot-Application.pdf.

Either of these forms can be downloaded, filled out, signed and returned to the Clerk’s office by email at ctouma-conway@wilmingtonma.gov,  FAX at 978-657-7564, using the Town Hall drop box located next to the main entrance, or by mail to Town of Wilmington, Office of Town Clerk, 121 Glen Road, Wilmington, MA 01887.

Ballots will be available within the next two weeks and will be sent to all early vote or absentee applicants immediately, regardless of what new election date is eventually set by the Board of Selectmen.  The new date can be no fewer than 20 days after their decision. The deadline to register to vote for the new election date will be 10 days prior to the new Election Day, and the Town Clerk’s office will be open until 8:00 p.m. on that last day to register.

The Office of Town Clerk will make every effort to keep voters and residents informed and to provide up to date information as each new development occurs. Please address any questions to Town Clerk Christine Touma-Conway by email at ctouma-conway@wilmingtonma.gov.
