POSITIVE NEWS: ‘Wilmington Cares’ Raises $6,000 (& Counting) To Send Gift Cards To Thank Local First Responders, Healthcare Workers & More

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington truly does care.

“Wilmington Cares,” an online initiative to give back and show appreciation to the town’s essential workers during the COVID-19 crisis, has raised more than $6,000 in its first three days. Funds were primarily used to purchase Wilmington restaurant gift cards for nearly 200 residents who are keeping the town fed, healthy and safe.

“Wilmington Cares” also recently donated $750 in Market Basket cards to the Wilmington Food Pantry, provided lunch for the schools’ custodial crew, assisted The Crafting Closet in its effort to continue making mask kit for hospital workers, and gathered 10 baby monitors to fulfill a request from a Wilmington nurse who is using the monitors to monitor COVID-19 patient rooms.

There’s still a chance for you to get involved if you’d like to help. Christina Bentley, the effort’s organizer, recently began raising additional funds for the next round of giving.

To make a monetary donation, please send a Venmo payment to chrissy5050. If you don’t have a Venmo account, contact Bentley at chrissy5050@hotmail.com.

To nominate someone you feel is deserving of a ‘thank you’ gift card, send the name and address to Bentley via Facebook Messenger. If you don’t have a Facebook account, contact Bentley at chrissy5050@hotmail.com. Examples include a grocery store employee, a pharmacist, a nurse, a doctor, a police officer, a firefighter, a delivery person, or a truck driver. All gift cards will be purchased from Wilmington restaurants to help them bring in some additional revenue.
