POSITIVE NEWS: Hundreds Of Families Participating In ‘Teddy Bear Hunt’ In Wilmington (MAP INCLUDED)

WILMINGTON, MA — The Teddy Bear Hunt has come to Wilmington.

Based on the 1989 award-winning children’s classic book, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury, communities all over the world have been placing teddy bears and stuffed animals in their homes’ windows to create a scavenger hunt for neighborhood children who are home from school and generally unable to interact in-person with anyone outside of their families.

One of the people who suggested bringing the Teddy Bear Hunt to Wilmington is Laura Stinson, the district’s Health & Physical Education Liaison and teacher at the Woburn Street School.

“I know many folks are social distancing while out walking, biking, running, or taking a family drive” Stinson told Wilmington Apple. “I was hoping this community kindness activity could be enjoyed by Wilmington as we navigate this virus pandemic.”

Wilmington Apple put a call out on social media asking participating residents to share their addresses so a map could be created to help families plan their “hunts.” The map can be found HERE(Viewers need to “zoom in” to get a clearer view.) There are more than 110 locations (and counting).

Wilmington Apple will continue to update the map multiple times over the next 2-3 days. If you’d like your home added to the list, please email wilmingtonapple@gmail.com. (Again, all you have to do is place a teddy bear or stuffed animal in one of your windows that can be seen from the street.)
